These Meals will Transport You into to Your Favorite K-Drama - The Daebak Company

If there’s one thing that could possibly outshine your favorite K-drama or K-actor, it would have to be all the food that is eaten throughout the entirety of the program. From simple instant meals, such as ramen, to exquisite food, such as seafood stews; everything always looks delicious! It’s easy to say that food is the real star of the show.

Ramen is a must for any Korean drama. No matter what show you watch, there is always at least one savory bowl featured, and of course, it always has toppings and a beautiful egg on the top.

Variations of this delicious meal range from your simple convenient store brands in a box to specialties, such as jjajangmyeon. For those who are curious about jjajangmyeon, it’s a noodle dish featuring black bean paste that is usually served with yellow radishes on the side. It’s a messy dish, but in the world of K-dramas, it’s the messy dishes that usually lead to the cute lip wipe from the lead actor or actress’ secret crush.

The next meal you’re surely going to see in a Korean drama is any variation of kimchi. This spicy cabbage is usually served as a side dish, however, it can become the star of the meal really quick!

Hey now, that isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I said it can be the star of the show, though that’s definitely a creative way to make your way into showbiz. No, what I’m talking about is a little on the hotter side of the frying pan and pot.

Take a look at this iconic clip from Boys Over Flowers of Jandi making Kimchi with her whole family!

Kimchi fried rice is always delicious as well; however, there is a trick to cooking it and saving it from becoming bitter. It’s not always successful as we can see here with Hyuk and Hongbin of the group VIXX attempting to make it.

Sausages are a staple item around the world. In Korea, they can be snacked on and bought from most convenient stores by the pack or individually. Many dramas show these small sausages and they’re becoming more popular with the newer dramas.

In Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, the loss of Bok Joo’s sausages becomes a huge deal after she is knocked over. It’s less of the injury to herself and more to an injury of her precious food!

Sausages in Korea are sold in a multitude of flavors ranging from beef and chicken to wilder flavors, like fish. Regardless of what you’re in the mood for, there is sure to be a flavor to satisfy your craving.

Finally, a well-known food in the world of Korean dramas would have to be bibimbap. This dish consists of rice and vegetables in most cases, but can also include a variety of meats in it as well. It can be served hot or cold, and many say that it tastes best in a hot pot which causes the rice at the bottom to crisp up ever so slightly. Just the thought of this dish makes my mouth water!

Bibimbap is best at any time in the year and is extremely filling because of the rice. One serving is usually enough for at least two people, but if you make extra there’s no shame in inviting family over to help you eat the rest of it.

Now that you’re probably starving for your next K-drama inspired meal, I suggest you sit down, pick a favorite show, and start making a list of foods you can make for yourself. Happy eating!
