Korean Breakfast On The Go!

Korean Breakfast On The Go! - The Daebak Company

People say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What you eat for breakfast matters since it provides you with the energy you need to function throughout the day. When watching Korean shows you often see the characters having a wholesome breakfast consisting of soup, rice, and various side dishes. With a busy schedule, it can be difficult to get such a balanced first meal of the day. Here are a few Korean bites for those who just need something quick and easy to take on the go:

  • Gyeran-Bbang

Gyeran-bbang (or egg bread) is can be considered a staple in Korean street food. This snack may sound rather bland and boring, but it actually balances sweet and savory very well. The bread is almost like a light cornbread flavor while you get the savoriness from the egg. Thanks to the whole egg, gyeran-bbang can almost be considered a complete meal since you get protein, vitamins, and minerals from the egg and carbohydrates from the bread.

  • Cheese and Egg Bread

Do you know what would pair really well with gyeran-bbang? Cheese! This snack is something that not seen until fairly recently. It’s pretty much an egg and cheese sandwich, except you don’t have to worry about any mess. Easy to eat AND nearly mess-free? We’ll have 10, please.

  • Banana Bread

If you love banana milk, you’ll love this one. Different vendors make their banana bread different than others. Some only have banana-flavored bread, while others put some banana in the middle of the bread or mix in some chocolate chips. Be sure to wash it down with some refreshing Yakult!

  • Korean Toast

Here’s another Korean street food staple: Korean toast. Many restaurants have been popping up, trying their hand to bring more popularity to the beloved breakfast sandwich. Filled with egg, cheese, ham or sausage, cabbage, carrots, and other vegetables, this isn’t just any ordinary sandwich. Korean toast is like a promise—a promise that you have a good day ahead of you.

  • Samgak Kimbap

Like the Japanese onigiri, samgak kimbap is a triangle-shaped rice ball. It can be made with either regular rice or fried rice and is often filled with tuna, beef, or other foods. Unlike the previous snacks, the most common place to find kimbap is in the convenience store.

  • Sunbaek Steamed Buns

While you’re at the convenience store getting samgak kimbap, be sure to grab some sunbaek steamed buns. They come with various kinds of fillings such as pizza, red bean, honey and sunflower, and milk. As delicious as all of the flavors sound, milk seems to be the most popular choice, but don’t let that stop you from trying them all!

On your next trip to South Korea, don’t worry too much about trying to find the best place to sit down and have breakfast. Sometimes, you just need something both quick and nutritious that you can take with you on the go. Besides, who has time to prepare a full, balanced breakfast when there’s a whole South Korea to explore?
