7 Unique Milk Flavors From 7-Eleven
We all know about the banana milk craze in South Korea. The most well known company to make flavored milks is Binggrae.
But did you know about 7-Eleven's label, 7 Select? In Korea, 7-Eleven also makes very delicious and unique flavors of milk other than the generic flavors of Strawberry, Chocolate, Coffee, and Banana.
1. Watermelon (수박, subak) Milk
The first time I found out about watermelon milk, I found a huge 1-liter bottle. Out of a dare, I bought it and was pleasantly surprised by the true watermelon taste of the milk. Two weeks later, I stumbled upon 7 Select's small carton of watermelon milk! It was just as good, though a bit sweeter than the previous brand I tried.
2. Plum (자두, jadu) Milk
I’ll be honest, plum is not one of my favorite fruits. It has to do with the various flavors it can be depending on the variation of the fruit. But I really enjoy the plum used to make their plum milk. It has a hint of tartness that really balances out the otherwise sweet world of Korean milk.
3. Apple (사과, sagwa) Milk
Apple. Milk. Is. Amazing. I'm not talking about sour green apple milk, but crisp, juicy, Honeycrisp apples. This milk tastes like it was made of just apple juice and milk, which was super refreshing during the spring.
4. Morning Rice (아침햇살, Achim Haetsal) Cereal Milk
아침햇살 is a very popular morning drink in Korea made of white and brown rice. Most people liken the taste to popcorn, but I think it tastes of a great start to the beginning of the day. It has a really unique creamy look and taste, so I wasn't too surprised to find this treasure of a drink on the milk shelf. I also liked drinking this milk with a bowl of cereal.
5. Coconut (코코넛, kokoneot) Milk
Now, I know Coconut Milk isn't too unique of a milk these days, but coconut paired with other flavors such as coconut-banana and coconut-mango in milk is still relatively hard to find in stores. They’re creamy and sweet enough to pair with a nice pastry, and even make for a good hot chocolate base! And just look at the sleek design of the bottles! Whipping this out at the park makes you look so fashionable!
6. Sweet Potato (고구마, goguma) Latte Milk
The next two milks on the list are called "latte," but they didn't taste anything like a latte to me: they tasted similar to the other Korean milks (i.e. very sweet). There is nothing better than a fresh, hot sweet potato bought from a street vendor in the middle of a freezing Korean winter, not even this milk. It is my least favorite on the list, but it has a very unique, roasted sweet potato taste and clearly suits the typical sweet milk Koreans love.
7. Honey Cream Cheese Latte (부드러운 허니 크림 치즈 라떼, Boodureoun heoni keurim chijeu ladde)
Just as with the Sweet Potato, I can't really consider this a latte, but it is also kind of hard to classify it as a milk because it is such a smooth, silky beverage that has a viscosity a little bit thicker than milk. Either way, I buy it in the milk section, so we're gonna just call it a delicious sweet milk. It's like drinking a cheesecake and I love eating it with a piece of toast or a piece of bread from a street vendor. It's perfect for snacking on at a park or while walking through a Hanok Village.
